Dr. Tracy Townsend, MD

Co-Founder & Medical Director, MD

Tracy is a licensed physician, psilocybin facilitator, psychedelic science educator, and Co-Founder of Meadow. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Virginia, where she later obtained her medical degree from the UVA School of Medicine. After medical school, she completed a five-year residency in general orthopaedic surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, followed by a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at Boston Children's Hospital of Harvard University. She was a practicing attending at Kaiser Northwest Permanente prior to founding Meadow.

She graduated in the first class of Innertrek, Oregon's pioneering psilocybin facilitator training program, and is among the first state-licensed psilocybin facilitators in the U.S. Through her work at Meadow Medicine, Dr. Townsend bridges neuroscience and consciousness, guiding clients through structured, evidence-based psychedelic healing experiences.

Dr. Townsend's passion for psychedelic medicine grew out of her own personal healing journey, working through intergenerational trauma, grief following her father's sudden passing, and the moral injury and burnout she experienced within conventional medicine. These experiences reawakened her lifelong passion for preventative health and the belief that lasting transformation arises from addressing the root causes of suffering through behavioral change, emotional integration, and expanded states of consciousness.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Townsend is passionate about psychedelic science education, which she offers free to the public via her YouTube channel.

Dr. Townsend's published scientific research can be found under her maiden name Tracy Kovach, as well as her married name. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband Mike Townsend, Co-Founder of Meadow, and their two children.
